My desire to walk John O’Groats to Lands End started in 1961.
In 1960 television was a new acquisition for most homes and when Dr Barbara Moore walked from John O’Groats to Lands End the nation was excited to see footage of this amazing lady on their television.
Shortly after Dr Barbara Moore’s walk Billy Butlin organised a race from John O’Groats to Lands End and gave high value prizes. The nation was gripped with JOGLE ‘fever’!
It is worth googling Dr Barbara Moore 1960 and watching some footage of her walk!
She did the journey in 22 days that really is fast walking!
My dad was fascinated and the next year he took the family to Lands End and we looked at the photos and stories in the makeshift gallery for End to Enders. From that day I wanted to walk from John O’Groats to Lands End.
It took me along time to find the right time to do the walk.
